Q&A: Tony Mammone, Product Manager of Insulpan Posted By Tarez Eisen
Tony Mammone

Insulspan, a manufacturer of insulated panels for more than 27 years, strives to create and maintain the highest quality standards in the structural insulating panel industry today. By subjecting their product to rigorous tests and always trying to provide the most energy-efficient building products for the home, it's no wonder Insulspan was voted one of 2007's Top 10 Green Products, and has high hopes for continued success and sustainability. Tony Mammone, involved in the structural insulating panel industry for more than 20 years and currently the product manager of Insulspan, spoke with MGB about what Insulpan's newest technologies mean for the company, what sets Insulspan apart, and where the company sees itself in the future.

With what mission in mind was Insulspan created?

Insulspan’s comprehensive system approach to the construction of your structure is what distinguishes us from the competition. Our ultimate goal is your complete satisfaction so we “begin with the end in mind,” striving for excellence from design and engineering through to sales and tech support. It’s that process and commitment that prompted the editors of Sustainable Industries to declare, “Not all panels are created equal, and Insulspan is the best.” Our Insulspan team consists of great dedicated people who have tremendous experience in all aspects of our industry including energy efficiency, building performance, manufacturing, design, site assembly and of course SIP systems. Our ultimate goal is complete satisfaction with every project.

The joy we share in building every project with educated clients can only be experienced during an Insulspan SIPS installation.

Could you explain the Insulspan Whole House home?

Insulspan focuses on the delivery of the design, production and tech support of the building envelope only. Insulspan Authorized dealers handle the design of the “Whole House system” and deliver the complete package. Insulspan works with industry leaders and contractors familiar with the SIP system.

Is the SIP panel layout something that can only be used in new construction of homes and buildings? Or can homeowners incorporate some of the technology into their pre-existing homes?

Although Insulspan SIPs are employed in additions of existing homes, say adding a second story or a new wing onto an existing home, the majority of the work Insulspan does is for new construction.

To be in the business for three decades, I imagine Insulspan has to stay on the cutting edge of technology to stay relevant.

The latest enhancements relate to computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing. Our programming enhancements combined with our ISO 9001:2000 Quality management programs have improved the quality and satisfaction of site assembly of SIP building components for our clients. In addition some of the latest technology advances are joint sealing techniques and insulation cores with higher R-Values.

You were voted one of the Top 10 Green Building Products in 2007—what has this done for Insulspan in the two years since?

This reinforces our statement and commitment that we have made to create the best SIP system possible on the marketplace. It provides confirmation credibility to Insulspan from a third party as the best SIP system on the marketplace today.

What sets Insulspan apart from other insulation companies that are utilizing the same SIP technology?

Competitors have tried to imitate these features but when most clients think of SIPs there is only one that delivers over the product life cycle, it is Insulspan. The Insulspan SIP System has been recognized as the best choice in building envelope technology in many green building projects, including the LEED Platinum BASF Demonstration Home, Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s ZEBRA Alliance Net Zero Energy Home, the Shirey Zero Energy Idea House, the NYSERDA Energy Efficient Home, the “This Old House” Carlisle 25 year anniversary home project and the Archetype Sustainable House.
There are a number of reasons that Insulspan SIPs stand out above the competition:
-Improved Air Quality
-Strength, Security, Versatility
-Quality Commitment
-Building Code Compliance
-Ready to Assemble Panels
-Easy to qualify for Energy Star or EnerGuide

What do you see for the future of Insulspan?

We see a future where educated clients can select and enjoy the benefits that Insulspan SIP systems bring for their schools, community centers, places they work and of course their personal homes. Due to the demand for reducing personal carbon foot print we see a significant demand for Insulspan SIP System Homes.
