EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ--Whitman has announced that the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey’s (CIANJ) Environmental Business Council Committee has appointed Michael Sylvester, vice president of business development and marketing at Whitman, to its 2010 - 2012 Advisory Board as the Chair of the Brownfields and Site Remediation Committee.
As a member of the EBC Committee, Sylvester will be responsible for guiding the growth of the Council and providing support to programs such as the group’s bi-monthly roundtable meetings, environmental procurement conferences and other special events.
The CIANJ is comprised of approximately 950 members, from Fortune 500 companies to emerging companies and sole proprietorships representing all areas of business and industry in New Jersey. The organization is the leader in free enterprise advocacy for the purpose of providing - through education, legislative vigilance and membership interaction - an economic climate that enhances business potential and makes New Jersey a better state in which to live, work and conduct business.
Sylvester, a veteran in the public/private sector in the environmental industry, is recognized on both national and state levels as a leader in the remediation of Brownfield sites. His professional background includes providing technical, financial and strategic consultation on matters involving environmental investigations, remediation and redevelopment of commercial and industrial properties, and he has extensive experience in obtaining financing and grants for development projects, especially those with environmental issues.
As vice president of business development and marketing at Whitman, Sylvester is responsible for all corporate business development and marketing strategies, programs and efforts. He is also responsible for all budgets, forecasts and corporate goals as well as general business development and strategic planning.
