PINE BROOK, NJ--GSH Group, Inc., an international facilities and energy management provider throughout the United States and Europe, announced that a property enrolled in its Energy Plus program has achieved an Energy Star award.
The award, which was given in January, is for Meritage Properties’ Metroplex I located at 8401 Corporate Drive, in Landover, Maryland. Metroplex I is in the Metro East Business Park, an inner suburb of Washington D.C., located at the intersection of the Capital Beltway and Route 50. Constructed in 1978, MetroPlex I has received an Energy Star rating of 79 out of 100, which means it is operating more efficiently than 79% of similar buildings.
GSH has been running its Energy Plus program at Meritage’s facility since September 2008, as well as its sister property Metroplex II. As part of its contract, GSH carried out several projects to improve energy efficiency. These projects included installation of highly efficient lighting, upgrades to the building management systems, variable frequency drives so as to improve air quality, a heat wheel, and solar heaters located on the roofs.
Energy Star was created through both the Environmental Protection Agency & Department of Energy to help protect the environment by emphasizing energy efficiency, both in products and practices. Energy Star’s energy management program for businesses has already been used for over 96,000 buildings across the United States, the top of which are awarded the Energy Star by the Environmental Protection Agency.
The facility will be presented with the Energy Star plaque and will be included in Energy Star’s online registry.
