CHICAGO--The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) - Chicago Chapter will host their Fourth Emerald Gala at the Swissotel Chicago on May 16, 2009.
The event is the preeminent celebration of the sustainable building movement in Illinois, attracting over 600 leaders of the green building community.
In celebration of the region's leadership in sustainable building, design, construction and operations, the Emerald Gala supports the USGBC - Chicago Chapter's mission to lead the regional transformation of the built environment to ecologically sustainable, profitable, healthy places through education, advocacy and collaboration.
The Emerald Gala will take place from 6:00 p.m. to midnight beginning with a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by a sit down dinner and awards presentation, and concluding with live music and dancing.
The USGBC - Chicago Chapter will recognize the 2009 Natural Leaders Award recipients at the Emerald Gala. The Natural Leaders Awards honor local individuals and organizations that are major contributors to the region's sustainable movement, recognizing them for helping to position the region at the forefront of sustainability.
Awards will be given in the following four categories - Intent to Matter, Re-Generation, SMALL feet/ large FEAT and Environmotion. Award winners respectively are Environmental Law and Policy Center; Vincent Iturralde, principal of Tarkington School of Excellence; Saint Xavier University; and Uncommon Ground.
