NEW YORK--Japanese Atelier, Hida Sangyo has collaborated with industrial designer, Enzo Mari, to create a sustainable furniture line that utilizes Japan’s hidden natural resource, sugi.
Sugi is a type of cypress tree native to Japan. The wood is lightweight but durable.
Founded in 1920, Hida Sangyo is one of Japan’s oldest furniture ateliers. Hida products are gentle on the environment and the people who manufacture it, making them eco-friendly and human-friendly. The industrial designer Enzo Mari has collaborated with Hida Sangyo to launch a collection in the U.S. that helps spread the message of sustainable furniture design and human ecology.
The goal of the design group is to simultaneously and seamlessly blend together the past, present and future to create authentic and earnest pieces that are both sustainable and universal, suiting all decors and environments.
The preview will be held at Sandbox Studios at 250 Hudson Street. To make an appointment, call 646-747-7158 or email ldavis@kwitco.com.
