BARNEGAT--Walters Homes has broken ground on Whispering Hills, an eco-friendly residential community situated on 85 acres on Rose Hill Road, between Barnegat Avenue and Route 9.
The long-awaited development will ultimately include 258-units, consisting of 107 townhouses, 99 single-family homes, and 52 rental apartments. The project’s first phase will entail the construction of the townhouses, expected to be completed and ready for occupancy by late fall 2008, according to the developer.
A preconstruction sales event held earlier this year attracted a healthy number of buyers. A number of the units were sold in preconstruction, with prices ranging from $279,995 to $309,995, according to Pamela Schuster, marketing and sales manager. The three-bedroom townhouses range from 1,983 sf to 2,188 sf and offer a vast array of pre-priced options. For a limited time, purchasers will receive a finished basement at no additional charge – bringing the square footage to over 2,500 sf.
Walters Homes hopes to achieve Silver LEED certification for the entire Whispering Hills development. As a result, Whispering Hills will be more energy- and water-efficient than conventional non-green development. Among other features, the townhouses will be equipped with Energy Star-certified products.
Energy Star is an energy-efficiency program of the Environmental Protection Agency. The program started in 1992 as a voluntary way to reduce the greenhouse gases emitted at power plants. Today, the program has caught on with builders like Walters Homes, who are addressing the problem of high utility bills.
