NEWARK, N.J.--Mayor Cory A. Booker announced today that the Department of Neighborhood and Recreational Services is marking Earth Day by holding a display in City Hall to highlight activities that residents can do at home and at work to “go green” and make for a cleaner environment.
The display will stand in the City Hall Rotunda tomorrow, Friday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will offer information on a variety of simple steps residents can take to reduce their impact on their environment.
“Newark is committed to ‘going green,’ and reducing the impact of pollution and the damage we do to our corner of the global environment,” Mayor Booker said. “All of us have a major role to play in the battle to save our planet from our own waste and pollution. We can win that battle and it can start in our own homes, offices, and work spaces. I urge all Newarkers to ‘go green,’ get involved, and take these simple steps.”
Neighborhood and Recreational Services Director Melvin Waldrop said that residents can save energy, money, and the environment through such simple steps as doing laundry at night, using compact fluorescent light bulbs, and running dishwashers with a full load. “It’s not difficult to make your home or work space more environmentally-friendly and greener,” Director Waldrop said. “It just takes a little commitment. If we all pitch in, we can live in a greener and more beautiful Newark.”
