PITTSBURGH-- Bhutan is supporting its decades-long environmental sustainability through sales of a set of two mini documentaries on the country--each one is on a CD-ROM that is part of an actual postage stamp.
The tiny nation, whose national credo is "Gross National Happiness," uses innovative postage stamps to support its economic development-and to preserve its pristine Himalayan environment-at the same time.
The stamps are developed by Creative Products International of Pittsburgh, PA. The CD stamps are the latest in a series of postage stamp "firsts" by Bhutan since the 1960s. The stamps are mini-CDs that fit into self-adhesive envelopes. When affixed to a larger envelope, the CD stamp can be used as postage.
Bhutan plans to continue its environmental, cultural and economic sustainability with the sale of this computer-age stamp, which is the world's first to feature a documentary of a country. The stamp set sells for less than $20.00.
