BRIDGEWATER--Somerset County local and elected officials, in collaboration with the private sector, have designed and are implementing a program that will again become the statewide model for sustainable practice in the design and construction of public buildings.
The goal of the Task Force is to bring awareness to the methodology of Green Building - design of energy efficient and high performance buildings. The adoption of energy-saving Green Building principles for county, municipal, and educational facilities will use ultimately use less resources and provide long-term savings for taxpayers.
Financial support provided by Johnson & Johnson, HSBC, and AT&T allowed the Business Partnership to enter into a collaboration agreement with the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Center for Architecture and Building Science Research.
The process resulted in the publication of the Somerset County High Performance Building Program, (www.greenbuildingtoolkit.com) a public policy document that defines standards for implementation of Green Design and Green Building. The publication consists of three documents that will be made
available to both the public and private sector in Somerset County. The Policy and Implementation Model will guide public officials toward the adoption of a green building program; the Building Program Toolkit will provide guidelines for implementation for building code officials, municipal
engineers, and administrators; and the Program Requirements serves as the summary of performance goals.
