MEADVILLE--In an effort to protect Pennsylvania motorists from unsafe trash trucks, the Department of Environmental Protection has assessed $131,000 in fines against Vogel Disposal Service Inc., Tri-County Industries Inc., and Valley Waste Service Inc. — each subsidiaries of Vogel Holding Inc. — for numerous and persistent violations.

The three businesses operate in Beaver, Butler and Mercer counties.

The violations were noted during trash truck inspections in October and November 2006 and June 2007 at Tri-County Landfill Inc.’s transfer station in Pine Township, Mercer County and at Seneca Landfill, Lancaster Township, Butler County.

Under the settlement, Vogel Disposal Services was assessed an $83,500 penalty, Tri-County Industries was fined $45,000, and Valley Waste Services will pay $2,500.
