MEADVILLE--The Department of Environmental Protection has assessed Rohrer Trucking Inc. a $12,100 penalty for solid waste violations at its facility in LeBoeuf Township, Erie County.
DEP discovered the violations on Aug. 29 while investigating a complaint about burning tires on the company’s property along Route 6 near Mill Village.
Inspectors found the smoldering remains of solid waste items, including tires, demolition waste and a tractor-trailer cab. During the inspection, it also was determined that the tractor-trailer cab had been transported to the property.
DEP permits are required to transport residual waste, operate a solid waste disposal or processing facility, and to incinerate municipal or residual waste. Rohrer Trucking does not have permits for any of these activities.
On Sept. 4, DEP issued a notice of violation to Rohrer Trucking for the infractions, which the company has since corrected.
The penalty will be deposited in Pennsylvania’s Solid Waste Abatement Fund, which finances cleanups of illegal dumps and other hazards to public health.
