PHILADELPHIA--Rohm and Haas announced today that it has developed a new water-based acrylic
adhesive, ROBOND Prohesion, used as a bonding alternative for pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes for automobile interior applications like door panels, interior pillars, instrument panels and ductwork.
Pilot tests indicate that ROBOND Prohesion withstands hot shear tests at 150 degrees F (62 degrees C) for more than 50 hours, exceeding values of some solvent-based choices. In addition, the product's humidity resistance, which had been a flaw with previous aqueous adhesives, is outstanding, retaining more than 80 percent of its peel after prolonged exposure to moisture under severe conditions of 90 percent humidity at 95 degrees F (35 degrees C).
As a water-based compound, ROBOND Prohesion is an environmentally advanced formulation that also holds up to performance demands of car makers who are asking suppliers to lower volatile organic compounds in their products.
