Bogged Down By Warming

Scientists are studying an ancient English bog for clues about climate change.
Increases in temperature caused the bog to release methane 55 million years ago when the earth was undergoing a period of warming similar to recent climate change. The emissions from the bog then caused temperatures to rise even higher.
According to the study's leader, geochemist Richard Pancost, "If wetlands exhibit similar responses, they will produce more methane and amplify the effects of global warming."
