New Hope For An Old Plan By Jodi LaMarco

Australian airline, Qantas Airways Ltd, plans to offer travelers the option of buying carbon credits to compensate for the emissions produced during their flight.

The program is scheduled to begin this month, but similar programs such as the one launched by British Airways in 2005 have been fairly unsuccessful thus far. Rob Kella,

Chief Risk Officer for Qantas, defended the plan by saying, "Our market research indicates there is a broader interest. Whether or not in a voluntary scheme, people will take that up, it's a personal decision on the day."
