The Inmates Have Taken Over By Jodi LaMarco

The Bastoey Island prison in Norway is being heralded as "the world's first ecological prison."

The facility is powered by solar panels, grows much of its own food, and recycles whatever it can in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint.

Justice Minister Knut Storberget said that the self-sufficient and environmentally-conscious attitude of the prison is intended to foster a sense of responsibility in the inmates.
