China May Face Food Shortage By 2030 By Jodi LaMarco

Zheng Guoguang, head of China's Meteorological Administration, says that global warming could force the nation's food supply to diminish by 100 million tons by 2030.

Climate change "may cause the grain harvest to fall by five to ten percent by 2030," said Guoguang.

China's swelling population is already encroaching on what little farmland is available, and rising temperatures could decrease growing periods for certain crops, make irrigation difficult, and encourage a spike in the population of crop pests.
