APEC To Gather In September
By Jodi LaMarco
Leaders from nations belonging to the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) will meet in Sydney, Australia on September 7-9 to discuss issues such as global warming and energy efficiency.
The 21 leaders involved with APEC will announce their agreement for long-term emission targets, but will not set any mandatory limits.
APEC's website contains a draft of the declaration which calls for a "long-term aspiration global emissions reduction goal" to replace the Kyoto protocol once it expires in 2012.
