Old Bikes Ride Again By Jodi LaMarco

Students from NYU have initiated a bicycle reclamation project in which abandoned bikes are refurbished for student use.

Volunteers from NYU collect unclaimed bikes which are then passed on to mechanics from Times Up!, an environmentalist group promoting non-polluting forms of transportation. New parts for repairs are purchased using money from a $5,000 grant from the university.

Half of the revamped bicycles will be donated to incoming freshmen who complete a workshop in bike safety and repairs, while Times Up! will keep the remaining half.
