Is Nuclear Power Back In the Ring? By Jodi LaMarco

The upcoming election in 2008 may bring with it stricter environmental regulations, namely new legislation that could potentially put a cap on the level of CO2 that coal plants are allowed to emit.

Carbon taxes and rising fossil fuel prices could help to make nuclear power competitive with coal, giving the industry a much needed boost.

While nuclear power plants must come up with ways to safely store their radioactive waste, they produce a negligible amount of greenhouse gases and would be more or less unaffected by changes in energy laws.
