Germany is becoming a solar giant despite the fact that the majority of the country only receives sunlight for approximately one third of the day.

Utilities are being forced to pay nearly four times the market price for solar power under a law known as the EEG, allowing home, farm, and business owners to pay for their photovoltaic systems within 10 years. The government has been pushing to increase the amount of power generated by renewable energy sources to 27 percent by 2020, more than double the current amount.
