Green Groups Fight Coal By Jodi LaMarco

Green organizations such as Earthjustice and the Sierra Club have filed a lawsuit against the Rural Utilities Service, a government office under the Department of Agriculture that has agreed to fund most of the cost of a $720 million coal-fired plant in Montana.

The groups claim that the RUS is in violation of federal law for failing to reveal the environmental impact of the plant or consider alternatives to the facility such as wind power.

The suit is intended to hinder the office from approving billions in loans for this and other proposed plants from Kentucky to Wyoming.
