Missing the Point
By Jodi LaMarco
On Wednesday morning, 15 Whole Foods stores across New York began selling cotton totes by well known London designer Anya Hindmarch to discourage the use of polyethylene bags.
The totes, emblazoned with the words, “I am not a plastic bag,” have attracted international attention, with shoppers from as far away as Hong Kong claiming they would fly to New York after supplies ran out at home. As early as Wednesday evening, over 200 of the bags had already reached the Ebay website with price tags as high as $300.
