Xeriscaping Offers Water-Saving Alternative to Lawns By Jodi LaMarco

Xeriscaping is a landscaping technique that opts for hardy, climate-appropriate plants over water-guzzling lawns in order to conserve resources.

The Colorado WaterWise Council claims that over 50 percent of residential water use is devoted to maintaining lawns and landscapes. Providing an alternative that is both attractive and requires less water is becoming increasingly important in areas such as the western and southeastern United States, where droughts are becoming more common.
