European nations have made changes to the 1992 OSPAR Convention that will allow captured CO2 to be buried below the seabed in the northeast Atlantic Ocean.

Norwegian Environment Minister Helen Bjoernoy said, “Storage of carbon dioxide in geological formations beneath the seabed will be an extremely important tool in the fight against climate change.”
The treaty was amended to exclude greenhouse gases from a ban on ocean dumping.
