Ontario will provide households up to C$5,000 to upgrade their furnaces to Energy Star approved models, as well as for installing other sustainable appliances such as solar-powered water heaters.

The government has stated that it will spend C$150 million on the project, and will also waive sales tax on Energy Star items ranging from air conditioners to light bulbs for one year. Ontario has vowed to reduce its emissions to six percent below 1990 levels by 2014.
