Making your home and office more comfortable, healthy, and efficient

Eco-conscious and one-of-a-kind
A home furnishings store offers guilt-free consumption.

Bazaar de la Paz proprietor Carol A. Puzone spent 20 years working for organizations such as the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Her dedication to alleviating poverty overseas and her awareness of industry-fueled environmental devastation led her to open a unique shop offering ethically produced, eco-conscious furniture and accessories. Each piece is crafted from salvaged and reclaimed tropical Indonesian hardwoods, and the result is beautiful, sustainable, one-of-a-kind furniture. There's a feel-good plus too: Purchases help to provide safe working conditions and fair wages for artisans in growing economies. 2662 Broadway, between 101st and 102nd Streets, New York. Open seven days a week, 11am–8pm. (212) 662-6601. www.bazaardelapaz.com

The Nelson Marshmallow Sofa was reintroduced to the market in 1999 after a 24-year hiatus. Originally presented in the Herman Miller catalogue in 1956, the sofa features 18 round cushions that "float" on a steel frame. Available in a variety of eye-catching fabrics and colors, the Marshmallow is also exceedingly comfortable, making it a suitable choice for both home and corporate settings. The Illy Francis Francis X6 Trio Espresso Machine has been designed to be used with Illy's single-serving coffee pods for a perfect cup of espresso every time. Choose one of three espresso preparations: short (ristretto), normal (espresso), or long (espresso lungo). In addition to its stylish, retro design, the X6 is user-friendly and built to last, with an 18 Bar pressure pump as well as brass boiler and brewing components. Its auto refill feature for continuous steam also makes it ideal for cappuccinos and lattes. $500. 36 espresso pods: $25. www.illyusa.com
